Beach, Please! A Palm Beach Themed First Birthday!

May 3, 2018

Pretty sure we start to think of the theme for a first birthday party when we see the two pink lines on that home pregnancy test.  And for Ms. Talulah, that was no different.  I have been planning events for the restaurants we own, for friends, and now for our children.  I began Marry Rich Event planning to satisfy my love of partying throwing and entertaining people of all ages!

Picking a theme... the hours of sleep I have lost thinking about this! So here's my theory for 1st birthday parties:  This is one of the only times that I will be able to pick the theme and then these babies will grow up and (unfortunately- ha) form opinions.  For example:  When my oldest daughter was 1 we threw this adorable Vaudeville, circus themed party.  Then at the age of two I had all sorts of creative ideas about her second birthday party; however (here's comes the new formed opinions) she wants....Minnie Mouse <insert eyeroll emoji>.  We made it cute and fun but man, couldn't we stick with the themes that I wanted. Ha!  Anywho, I get tired for the played out, overdone, themes that you see at every kids birthday party (ahem- Minnie Mouse) and want to let my creativity flag fly!   And as we know, most first birthday parties are for the parents to celebrate keeping the baby alive for the whole first year!

Everywhere you turn we are seeing the banana leaf trend and we are loving it.  It half makes me feel like I'm in Beverly Hills and then also satisfies my Florida-loving soul.   Therefore unto us the Palm Beach Chic themed first birthday party was born.

So this theme started with Pintrest- I didn't know that Palm Beach Chic party was a thing... it is definitely a thing!  I got major inspo/details from Pintrest. But once I pick a theme that I'm excited about the key is to not go overkill with one part of the theme.  Flaaaaaamingos! EVERYWHERE!  No, I needed to have different parts of the theme incorporated subtly throughout the party.  Check out the pictures and the the most beautiful video below to see all the details and decor!

These invitations from Freshmint Paperie on Etsy turned out just perfect!  They actually inspired the logo for Our Island Kids!  Would it be weird if I wallpapered a guest bath in this invitation? Just kidding, but it did really tie all of my ideas for a Palm Beach Chic birthday party together!

I stuck with black, white, pinks and banana leaf green for colors as I was choosing decor.  The black and white umbrella and the pool floats were a hit when everyone jumped into the pool on this hot day!

I often use a local rental company, Taylor Rentals, any time I need high top cocktail tables and chairs.  The adorable black and white stripe beanbag chairs are from Wayfair and were perfect for extra seating around the pool. These are staples that I purchased and use year round but I foresee they are neutral enough to be used for other events!

I absolutely loved how the various floral arrangements turned out and faithfully use local florist, Naples Silver Leaf, for my arrangements for events.  These centerpieces were stunning and fit the theme perfectly.  Beneath the floral arrangements are the linens in white and then overlays of pink and white.  I am often successful finding linens on Walmart.com and Amazon! Each place setting was accented by a fan that served as a placement and a party gift! Oriental Trading and Amazon are great places to find guest party gifts, decor, and fun items to contribute to your theme.

Shop the above photos for decor:

Flamingo straws, Pineapple Glasses can be found at Beall's Outlet, TJMaxx, etc.  Flamingo cocktail napkins

We say it over and over but the absolute best and talented is Lexie from Sweetified Bakery!  She recently won a challenge to make Cat Cora's wedding cake and you can see from this beautiful cake why!  She makes a lot of cakes for us and each one is as amazing as the next. In addition to the two cakes she made for the party, she also made the beautiful cookies in the picture above... one style was decorated with palm frons and the other were striped with Talulah's name printed on them. Follow her on IG to be inspired!

Our guests dined on a major local favorite, Fernandez the Bull.  They serve fabulous Cuban food, which choosing this cuisine I believe stuck to the Cuban influence in Florida!

The Piece de Resistance- The 8x8 Boxwood Wall

Our husbands assembled this wall and at first thought I was crazy when I described what I wanted!  Plywood was covered in these faux boxwood squares. The "Talulah" monogram was made by this Etsy shop and was excellent for each guest's photo op.

Like any birthday girl, she (and her sister) had an outfit change.  Talulah and Monroe started in these adorable banana leaf rompers and then when it was time to swim with friends, these swimsuits were perfect.

This little Lily Pulizter Flamingo shaped pool from Pottery Barn Kids fit perfectly for the theme and was a great spot for the babies to splash around without their mamas getting too wet.

A Videographer!!  One of the absolute best decisions we made for this party was to hire a videographer that was able to capture so many details, friends, and fun that can be missed while hosting a party.  Local and talented videographer, Nick Puga, did an amazing job.  Can barely watch without bringing a tear to my eye!  Enjoy!

I hope you are all set to have your own Palm Beach Chic Party!  I loved throwing this party and am considering having more children just to be able to do another.  That is a huge joke and never, ever happening :)  I love how many of these items can be used for so many other events or even around our home! Please leave a comment with any questions or ideas for future soirees!
